Composite Cord Strapping

Composite strapping, sometimes called "synthetic steel," is a high-strength material designed to secure heavy loads in industrial applications. It combines tensile strength, flexibility, and environmental resistance with polyester fibers embedded in a durable polymer coating. Composite cord strapping is widely used in industries that require safe stabilization of irregular or heavy loads.

Manual or pneumatic tools and galvanized steel buckles tighten and secure composite strapping around a load to achieve consistent tension while also allowing re-tensioning. Contact us today to request a quote for cord strap or composite strap buckles today!

Why Choose Composite Strapping?

Composite strapping has a reinforcing polymer coating that resists:

  • Stretching and tearing
  • Moisture
  • UV exposure
  • Chemicals
  • Abrasion

Its high tensile strength rivals that of steel strapping but is lightweight and easy to handle. It is flexible enough to conform to irregularly shaped loads and secure them effectively.

Composite vs. Polypropylene and Polyester

Composite strapping offers distinct advantages over polypropylene and polyester strapping. Although polypropylene is a cost-effective solution for lightweight loads, composite strapping is much stronger and more durable and can handle much heavier loads. Polypropylene also doesn’t have an environmentally resistant polymer coating like composite strapping, so it is unsuitable for outdoor applications.

Composite cord strapping offers superior tensile strength and better resistance to heavy impact and tension than polyester strapping. However, polyester strapping has a smoother, low-friction surface that prevents jamming in automated applications. Composite strapping, by contrast, performs best in manual or semi-automated settings where its rugged durability and re-tensioning tolerances are valuable.

Disadvantages of Composite

While composite strapping is incredibly strong, it may not achieve the absolute tensile strength of steel strapping for the heaviest or sharp-edged loads. Additionally, even though its polymer coating resists environmental conditions, it can be susceptible to wear over time in highly abrasive conditions.

Composite strapping also requires manual tools and steel buckles for secure application, which may be less efficient than the fully automated systems designed for polyester or polypropylene strapping.
